Learn More (An Overview of the Project)

Funded by generous grants from Community Memorial Foundation and the LGBTQ Community Fund at the Chicago Community Trust, AgeOptions is building a network of Thrive with Pride Cafes that will provide social support and vital information to the LGBT older adults and caregivers of suburban Cook County.  AgeOptions will host a monthly online plenary, offered live through Zoom and recorded for our archives; our partner sites will host informal gatherings online. AgeOptions provide programming tailored to the needs of the LGBT+ older adults population, including presentations on government benefits, planning for retirement, power of attorney and other legal helps, navigating Medicare, and preventing Medicare fraud; and will also present programming to help caregivers and those living with a chronic condition. If you’d like to request or suggest a cafe theme, email us!

If you are interested in hosting a cafe at your organization, or learning more about sponsoring a cafe, please contact AgeOptions at (800) 699 9043.

Read about AgeOptions' Commitment to Inclusion.

AgeOptions believes that “The diversity of our organization and communities is a rich asset that strengthens our mission and guides our decisions and direction.” (See our mission, vision and values here.) We believe in the full inclusion of LGBT individuals and their caregivers in our community – and that becoming more welcoming to the LGBT population will help us become more welcoming to all. We uphold the values of commitment, integrity and connectedness in all of our interactions.

We hope to become culturally competent so that we are meeting the unique and pressing needs of this community as we innovate, partner, and advocate to improve systems and services in order to strengthen communities so people thrive as they age. Accordingly, AgeOptions is working to become SAGE Care platinum certified by the end of 2020. Click here to learn more about SAGE Care and the SAGE Care credential.

Funds for this website were provided in part by grants from Community Memorial Foundation and the LGBTQ Community Fund of the Chicago Community Trust.

AgeOptions is proud to announce a new partnership with The Chicago Community Trust’s LGBT Community Fund. Click here to read about our funding award and plans for future expansion in the Daily Herald.

Important Information During the Covid-19 Pandemic

Following guidance from the Illinois Department on Aging, AgeOptions has temporarily suspended all in-person gatherings until further notice. These include Thrive with Pride Cafes. We hope to move soon to provide some virtual meeting options and video/tele-conferencing options for sharing resources and information. Click here to read a message from AgeOptions’ CEO and President, Diane Slezak.

In the meantime, stay informed – the National LGBT Cancer Network has a great page with information specific to the LGBT+ community. Click here for their guide, including tops on finding an affirming provider if you need one.

Did you know?

The 2020 Census is here!

…With three ways to fill it out:

– online (go to www.My2020Census.gov)

– by phone (call (844) 330-2020)

– by mail (fill out and return the paper mailing sent to you in late April)

This year, for the first time, you will be able to tell the Census that you are living with a same-sex partner (married or unmarried). If you are unpartnered, or do not live with your partner, it is still important that you fill out the Census. EVERY living person in the United States – regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, immigration status, or any other distinction, should be counted. Stand up and be counted! Click here for more information about how the Census helps your Illinois community.

If you have questions or need assistance filling out the Census, call us to connect with a local partner: (800) 699 9043
